Ranthambhore National
Park : India boasts of thousands of years of cultural and
natural heritage, 86

national
parks, 448 wildlife reserves, more than 2.4 million temples, mosque and churches,
magnificent forts and palaces, the towering Himalayas, a large coastline and infinite
other attractions. According to Lonely Planet, India is among the top five destinations
for individual travelers among 134 countries, and finds mention in a list of 101
best hotels in the world. One such national park is the Ranthambore national park
situated in the state of Rajasthan.
Ranthambore, in the state of Rajasthan,
is one of the smallest Project Tiger reserves. Its name comes from the vast fort
that stands in the middle of the forest. The name Ranthambore is derived from
two hills in the area, Ran and Thanbhor. Another version says that Ranthambore
was once called Rana Stambhapura or City of the Pillars of War!
Ranthambore
Tiger Reserve in the Indian state of Rajasthan comprises distinct areas with varied
conservation and virtually separated geographically, with mere narrow corridors
linking them.
The Ranthambore National Park, at the junction of the Aravalis
and the Vindhyas, is a unique juxtaposition of natural and historical richness,
standing out conspicuously in a vast arid and denuded tract of eastern Rajasthan,
barely 14 kilometer from the town of Sawai Madhopur.
It is spread over
a highly undulating topography, varying from gentle to steep slopes, from flat-topped
hills (indala, Doodh-Bhat and Chiroli) of the Bindhyas to the conical hillocks
(Lahpur, Nalghati, Khachida, Anantpur etc.) to narrow, rocky gorges. An important
geological feature, the "Great Boundary Fault" where the Bindhyas were brought
against the much ancient Aravalis, passes from here.

SARISKA
WILDLIFE RESORTS SARISKA
PALACE
Sariska National Park
lies in the Aravalli hills and is the former hunting preserve of the Maharaja
of Alwar.

Sariska
itself is a wide valley with two large plateaus and is dotted with places of historical
and religious interest, including the ruins of the Kankwari Fort, the 10th century
Neelkanth temples, the Budha Hanumab Temple near Pandupol, the Bharthari Temple
near the park office, and the hot and cold springs of Taalvriksh. The large Siliserh
Lake is at the northeastern corner. The forests are dry deciduous, with trees
of Dhak, Acacia, Ber and Salar. The Tigers of Sariska are largely nocturnal and
are not as easily seen as those of Ranthambhor. The park also has good populations
of Nilgai, Sambar and Chital. In the evenings, Indian Porcupine, Striped Hyaena,
Indian Palm Civet and even Leopard are sometimes seen. The forests are lush during
and immediately following the monsoon, but during the dry months of February May
there is a shortage of water and in consequence mammals are attracted to water
holes. At this time of year visibility is good because of the sparse foliage.
Sariska is excellent for bird watching and has an unusually large population of
Indian Peafowl.
About Sariska Palace :
The grand Sariska Palace, built in 1892 - 1900, near the park office has
a large sprawling complex. The main palace, built by the Maharaja of Alwar as
a hunting lodge, has been converted into a hotel. Sariska Palace is 38 km from
Alwar Railway Station and is located inside the Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary. The
facilities offered include room service, hot and cold running water, swimming
pool, health club, Ayurvedic treatment, Money changing. Each room is richly furnished
with original Louis Quartzes and art deco furniture and has private bathroom with
bath and/or shower and toilet.
Nearby is Tiger’s Den, a tourist bungalow
run by the Rajasthan government RTDC & a private budget property called Tiger
Heavens. There are good roads within the park and some watchtowers. Safaris are
by 4-wheel drive motor vehicles.

The rooms & suites are gigantic (with typical high ceilings) & clean, with phones
but no TVs; some are air-conditioned. A large wall to keep the animals out, though
they often find their way in, encircles the lovely flower bedecked grounds. At
times you may be lucky to see wildlife while relaxing on the hotel terrace itself.

of Sariska is never ending. Just like it history. From the time the Buddhists
built their monasteries, to the time the Pratiharas their temples and closer down
in history, the Mughals who setup their Shikar camps, Sariska is wrapped in a
tradition as old as the Aravallis. The range of hills formed by the oldest rock
on earth. The Sariska Palace. Ascetics and emperors, down the ages, indeed did
a perfect naturopathic retreat where you rejuvenate mind and body, as.
